Lucy Lane ‘Superwoman’ coming to Supergirl

Supergirl isn’t the only super heroine coming to CBS this fall. According to TVLine,
Lucy Lane (not yet cast) will debut in episode three of Supergirl. Lucy Lane is Lois Lane’s younger sister, Jimmy Olsen’s ex-girlfriend and possibly a future Superwoman.

In the comics, Lucy’s relationship with Jimmy Olsen goes as far back as the 1950’s. They have a long history of dating. Her metamorphosis into the metahuman Superwoman wasn’t introduced until much more recently. Lucy’s greatest weakness has always been letting herself live in the shadow of her older sister Lois. No word if Lois will make an appearance on the show, but it’s likely she will be referenced.

Lucy’s introduction on Supergirl brings up some interesting questions: Will her presence in National City create a love triangle between Kara, Jimmy and herself? Will she be visiting for one episode or will she be a recurring guest character? Does her appearance on the show mean even more Superman characters coming? Lastly, will they tease her future as Superwoman, or will that be held back for a few seasons?

I reached out to a few friends on Twitter to get their feedback on Lucy Lane’s appearance on the show:

Supergirl premiers Monday October 26 at 8p.m. on CBS.

Doctor Who Fans Start SDCC Hall H Line Early

Every year the Hall H line at Comic Con draws crowds of thousands. As Comic Con gets more and more popular fans are lining up earlier and earlier to get a glimpse of their favorite movie and t.v. actors. We speculated in an earlier blog post that Doctor Who would be a very popular panel, and this is proving to be true. As I write this post, it’s 5:10pm Wednesday evening, the night before Hall H’s first panels, and there are already over 100 people camping outside Hall H!

A young couple was seen lining up yesterday, when asked what they were camped out for they replied “Doctor Who”. Since Doctor Who skipped Comic Con last year, fans of the longest running science fiction show are eager see the Twelfth Doctor, his Impossible Girl Companion and a few other special guests.

BBC AMERICA’s Doctor Who returns to San Diego Comic-Con for a Hall H panel on Thursday, July 9. Following his record-breaking first season as the Doctor, Peter Capaldi will make his first ever appearance at Comic-Con with stars Jenna Coleman (Clara Oswald), Michelle Gomez (Missy), lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat and executive producer Brian Minchin. Doctor Who follows the adventures of the Doctor, the time traveler, who will continue to journey through all of space and time in epic adventures in the new season premiering this fall. Capaldi’s first season delivered BBC AMERICA its highest rated season ever and is available now on all digital platforms.Peter Capaldi on making his first Comic-Con appearance: “Tales of San Diego Comic-Con are told in awe on every set around the known fantasy/sci-fi production world. It’s become a fabled kingdom. One I am thrilled to find myself heading for. And to appear in the legendary Hall H, is a further twist to the cosplay and comic madness I may never recover from.”

Top Gun 2 Is Happening!

News broke over the weekend that Top Gun 2 is officially happening and to top it off, Tom Cruise may be reprising his role as Maverick!

On Saturday, Skydance CEO David Ellison said “Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now…He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today.”

He continued: “It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters. It’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today.”

Ellison chose to break the news during a Terminator Genisys press junket in Berlin.  At the junket, he even hinted at Cruise’s huge return. “There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie, and there is no Top Gun without Maverick,” he said. “And it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick.”

Cruise, now 51, starred in the Tony Scott-directed film about a Navy fighter in 1986. The movie is responsible for launching the actor’s career and also starred Val Kilmer (Iceman), Kelly McGillis (Charlie), Anthony Edwards (Goose), and Tom Skerritt (Viper).

New Captain Marvel Comic from Agent Carter Writers

Marvel announced today that Captain Marvel will be written by a new set of writers after Secret Wars has finished. While fans will miss former writer Kelly Sue DeConnick, who is moving on to produce television, I think fans will love new writers Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas. Tara and Michele are no strangers to writing about a strong female character set in a male-dominated MCU — they currently helm the hit ABC show Agent Carter. Their development of Peggy Carter as a strong woman in the S.S.R. is a great example of their ability to write a strong female character. Michele and Tara are also very well versed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Agent Carter they crafted a fantastically layered post-WWII, pre-S.H.I.E.L.D. world set with villains and heroes, all drawing from the back stories of Peggy Carter, Howard Stark, Hydra and the S.S.R. In Agent Carter they even payed tribute to the fallen Captain America, Steve Rogers, who in the future, is a very good friend of Carol’s. It really is all coming full circle for them, which is fantastic!

As for whether or not Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel will change with these new writers, Marvel said today in Fast Company:

“This is really meant to be the next level for Captain Marvel,” says series editor Sana Amanat. “Carol is really meant to be a soldier and a commander, and also a diplomat. We’re really trying to build up this space complex and this space world. You’ll really feel like there’s an extension of the Avengers world into space….”

Carol Danvers is also getting a new look for the new comic, sporting a shorter, more practical hair cut and outfit.

New Carol Danvers look Captain Marvel

What do you think of the new writers and new look for Captain Marvel? Do you think Tara and Michele’s experience writing for bad-ass British intelligence officer Agent Carter will help them write compelling new adventures for Carol? Let us know in the comments below.

The new Captain Marvel comic should be hitting shelves this fall.

Agent Carter returns to ABC January 2016.
