One of the lead characters in the much anticipated Harry Potter Prequel, Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, has finally been cast. There has been months of speculation on whether or not Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne would take the lead role. He has now officially joined the Harry Potter family!
“Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors,”
Warner Bros. Pictures’ President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production Greg Silverman said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”
Redmayne will play Newt Scamander, “the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist,” who travels & documents magical creatures then publishes the Hogwarts history textbook, which Harry, Ron, and Hermoine obsess over. It ultimately serves as the inspiration for the prequel.
Warner Bros. has already announced that a trilogy was in the works and they are expected to be released in 2016, 2018 and 2020. The first movie is set to be released on Nov. 18, 2016. J.K. Rowling will be writing the first film, her first screenplay, and the movie will be directed by David Yates, who is responsible for the last four amazing Harry Potter installments.
